"My time in the Sustainability program at Eastern Illinois University was both rewarding and transformative. The program strengthened my understanding of sustainable energy and prepared me to connect sustainability principles with practical engineering solutions. That foundation has supported my advancement into a Senior Electrical Engineer role in utility-scale renewable energy (solar, wind, and energy storage) fields and my service as the 2026 Vice Chair of the IEEE Climate and Sustainability Subcommittee. I am only optimistic about what the future brings. Beyond academics, I was fortunate to learn from knowledgeable, supportive professors and study alongside students with diverse experiences and perspectives. EIU and for that matter, the Sustainability Department gave me a strong sense of community and belonging, and the warmth of the Charleston community made my experience even more meaningful. I remain grateful for the education, relationships, and opportunities I gained while on campus, and I still miss Charleston today."Shaiu IbrahimSustainability | Class of 2021
