Daily Crime Log

The Police Department at Eastern Illinois University is required to create, maintain, and make available an easily understood daily crime log. The daily crime log must include the nature, date, time, general location of each crime that occurs within the institution’s Clery Geography, and the disposition of the complaint, if known. The University Police Department must make the entries available within two business days of the report of the information, unless the disclosure is prohibited by law or would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim. The University Police Department may withhold this information if there is clear and convincing evidence that releasing it would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or safety of the individual, cause the suspect to flee or evade detection, or result in the destruction of evidence. However, UPD must disclose any withheld information once the adverse effect is no longer likely to occur. The University Police Department is required to make the crime log for the most recent 60-day period open to the public inspection during normal business hours and any portion of the log older than sixty days available within two business days of a request for public inspection.

2026-10-30	Resisting a Peace Officer	Residential Hall	On October 30, 2026, at 12:53am a.m., UPD responded Andrews Hall in reference to a male subject causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Upon arrival, the male subject refused to cooperate with officers and was subsequently arrested for Resisting a Peace Officer. The subject was processed and later released with an NTA.
2026-09-27	Criminal Damage to State Supported Property & Theft	Campus	On 10/30/2026 at 9:05am, the Eastern Illinois University Police department was made aware of a tree that was cut down west of the grounds shop in the woods on university property. A suspect was located and was made aware of the possible consequences. The University declined to pursue charges at this time. The case is closed.
2026-10-30	Theft by Deception	Residential Hall	On 10/31/2026 at 9:53am, UPD responded to Lawson Hall for an individual who discovered to have been deceived into giving money online by an unknown suspect pretending to represent a charity organization. The case is under investigation.
2026-10-31	Disorderly Conduct	Residential Hall	On 10/31/2026 at 12:30pm UPD officers were dispatched to Taylor dining hall in reference to a male who had previously caused problems for staff was seen back in the building. Staff reported they were alarmed and disturbed by the man and wished for him to leave. Upon arrival, officers located the male, determined he was not a student, and subsequently banned from him from Eastern Illinois University properties.
2026-11-02	Theft of Mislaid Property	Residential Hall	On November 4, 2026, at approximately 2:03 p.m., the University Police Department (UPD) received a report of an alleged theft involving headphones taken from the dining area of Taylor Hall. During the investigation, a person of interest was identified. Subsequent contact with the individual resulted in the recovery of the headphones. After the headphones were recovered and returned, the victim declined to pursue criminal charges. The incident was referred to the Dean of Students Office for review. The UPD investigation is complete, and the case has been closed.
